Samuel specializes in high-stakes dispute resolution spanning commercial litigation, international arbitration, and public international law.

With a focus on multijurisdictional claims for both states and multinational corporations, Samuel's representation extends across diverse courts and tribunals globally. Additionally, his expertise extends to corporate advisory matters and investigations.

Prior to joining BSF, Samuel worked at a Magic Circle firm, where he advised on disputes for governments and corporations across various sectors, including financial services, energy, manufacturing, and distribution. He has a shared background in law and finance which equips him with an understanding of financial intricacies, enabling him to adeptly handle industry-specific claims such as fraud and bribery and assist in the protection of clients’ investments.

Samuel’s experience includes advising:

  • Silver Bull Resources, Inc. in a legacy NAFTA investment claim against Mexico over the expropriation of its silver-zinc mining project before ICSID
  • A West African Bank in ICC arbitrations regarding standby letters of credit
  • Mining companies in a London-seated LCIA arbitration concerning the acquisition of shares and receivables in connection with mining operations in West Africa
  • Royal Dutch Shell and its Directors in a derivative action on allegations of breach of director’s duties and climate inaction*
  • Credit Suisse in High Court litigation relating to fraud, bribery and corruption allegations arising out of the U.S. $2 billion Tuna Bonds in the Republic of Mozambique*
  • BHP, a multibillion-dollar mining company on one of the largest class action litigations ever commenced in England worth over £5 billion, in connection with a collapsed dam in Brazil*
  • The U.K. Ministry of Defence in defence of claims for property worth over £8 billion brought by a billionaire private equity firm*
  • The first Advisory Opinion of the CCJ, dealing with issues of international law and treaty interpretation of reciprocity, free movement and trade, and opt-out clauses applicable to CARICOM states*
