Nicolas has experience representing clients in commercial and investor-state disputes across various industries, such as construction, transportation, mining, energy, and telecommunications. Nicolas has represented clients—sovereigns, state-owned entities, and private parties—across various jurisdictions under the ICSID, UNCITRAL, ICC, ICDR, and AAA Rules. He has also served as a secretary to arbitrators and chairs under ICC and ICDR rules.

Prior to joining BSF, Nicolas worked in the International Arbitration practice at a leading international law firm based in Miami, Florida. He brings five years of experience from Colombia. Nicolas was an associate of the dispute resolution practices at two law firms. In addition, he has clerked for the Constitutional Court of Colombia and the Council of State of Colombia, Third Chamber.

Nicolas has taught international arbitration and commercial law at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. He is a member of Young ICCA, ALARB, MIAS, ICC YAAF, and a board member at Colombian Very Young Arbitration Practitioners.  

Nicolas is a native Spanish speaker and fluent in English.

  • Representing a Canadian investor in a claim against Mexico involving the expropriation of a concession for replacing taximeters in Mexico City’s taxi fleet
  • Representing the applicants in an evidentiary hearing in support of a 28 U.S.C. § 1782 application in aid of foreign proceedings before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida
  • Representing a European pharmaceutical company in an ICC arbitration seated in London, UK, addressing claims and counterclaims exceeding US $20 million arising from a distribution contract governed by English Law
  • Representing an Italian subsidiary in an ICC arbitration against a Colombian agency for breaches arising from a concession contract involving claims exceeding US $500 million
  • Acting as Administrative Secretary in an ICC arbitration between a Peruvian and a Swiss party related to breaches of a sale-purchase agreement governed by Florida law and the UN Convention for the International Sales of Goods
  • Representing two American investors in an investment arbitration against Honduras under the CAFTA-DR Treaty, stemming from constructing and financing a low-income housing project
  • Representing an Afghan company in an ICC arbitration against two European companies for uncollected collocation fees arising from lease and maintenance agreements governed under Virginia law
  • Assisting the chair of two arbitration proceedings under the ICC rules concerning a dispute over a line of credit contract governed by New York Law between Argentinian and Dutch parties
  • Representing a Colombian company in claims involving breach of a sales agreement for specialized equipment used in oilfields in an arbitration under the Bogota Chamber of Commerce Rules of Arbitration
  • Representing a Colombian company in an ICC arbitration against claims arising from alleged breaches of indemnities in a Share Purchase Agreement governed by Colombian law
  • Representing a Colombian entity in its claims exceeding US $90 million against the Telecom Ministry of Colombia for rejecting a spectrum license assignment
  • Representing a Colombian company in an arbitration under the Bogota Chamber of Commerce concerning a breach of a take or pay transport contract filed by a Canadian subsidiary
  • Representing a Colombian State-owned entity in an arbitration under the Bogota Chamber of Commerce for claims arising from an oil pipeline explosion
  • Representing the largest carbon producer in Colombia in a bet-the-company litigation before a local court over the nullification of the environmental permit granted by the Colombian authorities
