Boies Schiller Flexner partner Hamish Hume was featured in The American Lawyer's “Under the Hood” story about the decade-long Blue Cross Blue Shield Multidistrict Litigation.
This week the court gave final approval to our historic settlement in BSF’s class action against the Blue Cross and Blue Shield health plans. The BCBS settlement amount of $2.7 billion is the largest ever recovered in an antitrust case that was not the subject of any government enforcement by the federal or state antitrust authorities. Perhaps more significantly, the injunctive relief is likely to substantially alter and improve the competitive landscape in the markets for health insurance and related services across the country.
In the article, Hamish explains how the theory of the case was developed; discusses how the litigation evolved over the years; and shares important milestones along the way, such as when David Boies joined the team in a leadership role.
