Hamish is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, has served as lead counsel for many of the firm’s most important clients, and has been honored as one of the leading lawyers in the country by Chambers USA, Lawdragon, The American Lawyer, and The National Law Journal. Independent commentators have called him “a smart litigator who brings novel cases,” and “a brilliant legal strategist.”

Hamish has served as lead counsel in jury and bench trials worth billions of dollars and has argued and won numerous appeals. His high-profile successes include winning an $812 million jury award for investors of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, developing the class action case that resulted in the largest antitrust recovery without a government investigation, winning the first-ever bid protest in government contracting, and leading the firm’s efforts on behalf of Barclays in matters relating to the Lehman Brothers collapse.

In addition to general commercial litigation, Hamish’s practice includes antitrust law, administrative law, constitutional law, government contracts, healthcare, and gaming law.

Hamish’s experience includes:

  • Lead trial counsel in winning an $812 million jury verdict on behalf of a class of shareholders of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac challenging the amendment to the Treasury’s shareholder contracts imposed by Treasury and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (after arguing the successful D.C. Circuit appeal of the original case dismissal)
  • Lead counsel in obtaining a precedent-setting victory for Palantir against the U.S. Army, invalidating a software development solicitation and leading to Palantir successfully obtaining a contract worth approximately $500 million—enforcing a statute that had lain dormant for over twenty years
  • Leading the development and litigation of a class action antitrust case against the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association and related BCBS health plans that led to a record-setting settlement of $2.67 billion
  • Leading the firm’s representation of Barclays Capital in defeating claims worth over $13 billion by the SIPC Trustee for Lehman Brothers Inc., the LBHI parent, and the Lehman Creditors Committee
