Tim is co-head of the international arbitration group. His practice focuses on international arbitration and special situations in the mining sector.
A U.S. litigator by background, Tim moved to London to work for a Magic Circle law firm where he managed the first investment arbitration claims against Spain under the ECT. In the past decade, his practice has focused primarily on disputes in mining including investment claims against States, underground construction disputes, offtake disputes, and joint venture disputes concerning mining and mineral processing facilities. He also helps mining companies solve problems in developing jurisdictions with illegal mining and disputes with local contractors.
He has acted in proceedings under all major arbitral rules and he has also handled the enforcement of commercial and ICSID arbitration awards in the courts of the United States, England, and Belize.
Tim has been recognized by Global Arbitration Review and Who’s Who Legal's report on International Arbitration for the past five years. In 2024, he was recommended by WWL's International Arbitration Guide, and in 2023 he was named as a “global elite thought leader” in the Future Leaders of Arbitration. He has been named a “Rising Star in International Arbitration” for four years, including in 2022 when he was named amongst WWL’s “most highly regarded” Future Leaders of Arbitration for the EMEA Region. WWL’s commentary notes that Tim is “a stellar advocate,” “very strategic,” highly regarded for his “larger-than-life character and strong presence in the market.” Client feedback within WWL named him “the best arbitration lawyer of his generation hands down, ” and stated he does not “waste time on minutiae, which makes him a very effective opponent.”
Tim began his legal career working as a Staff Attorney for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to joining the firm, he was the Managing Partner of the London office of a boutique arbitration firm.
