Boies Schiller Flexner LLP announced today that Michael Losco has joined the firm’s New York office as counsel in the international arbitration practice. Losco is the second recent addition to the group, following closely behind Timothy Smyth, who joined in London last month.
Losco has extensive experience in commercial and investor-state disputes before major arbitral institutions including the ICC, ICDR, ICSID, JAMS, and UNCITRAL. Among his most notable representations are acting for MOL Hungarian Oil and Gas Plc in its long-running series of disputes against the Republic of Croatia. Michael’s work also focuses on advising clients on post-award litigation, representing both claimants and respondents in actions to recognize, enforce, and set aside arbitral awards valued at nearly a billion dollars in U.S. courts and abroad.
“I’m thrilled to be joining a team as dynamic and busy as the international arbitration practice at BSF,” Losco said. “I’m particularly drawn to the firm’s vision for the practice, which approaches arbitration through the lens of advocacy rather than academics. This practical, results-driven approach aligns well with my background.”
Losco, who has worked in a variety of sectors including energy and oil and gas, is highly skilled in resolving disputes involving allegations of corruption. He has authored and contributed to publications on a variety of arbitration-related issues, including the treatment of corruption allegations by international tribunals. Most recently, Losco worked in the international arbitration departments of two international law firms.
“Michael’s arrival marks another significant step in the strategic growth of our international arbitration practice,” said Timothy Foden, London partner and co-head of the international arbitration group. “He adds valuable capabilities to our offering, including in the energy and oil and gas sectors, and he helps us further build out our talented bench in the U.S. market. We’re excited to have him as a new colleague.”
Washington, D.C. partner Kristen Young added, “Michael’s experience in investor-state arbitration is an excellent fit as we continue to grow our practice. His award enforcement capabilities, as well as his command of forensic accounting issues, will be highly valuable to our clients. I’m looking forward to working with him.”
