On January 1, Matthew L. Schwartz became just the second Chairman in Boies Schiller Flexner history, taking over the position that had long been held by David Boies.

Matt, who joined the firm in 2015 after 10 years as a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York, has served as a managing partner since the beginning of 2021. His practice focuses on government and internal investigations, white collar defense, regulatory compliance, and complex civil litigation. He is also the leader of the firm’s Crisis Management practice and co-leader of the Global Investigations and White Collar Defense group.

Matt was selected to the inaugural Forbes Top 200 Lawyers list in 2024, is consistently listed for his white collar work in legal directories and rankings, and has won individual recognition for his cases, such as Litigator of the Week honors from The American Lawyer. As a prosecutor, he was a three-time recipient of the DOJ’s John Marshall Award, the highest award given to DOJ lawyers.
