Boies Schiller Flexner Chairman David Boies and Managing Partner Sigrid McCawley were chosen as The American Lawyer’s Litigator of the Week for their work on behalf of sexual abuse victims of Jeffrey Epstein.
JPMorgan Chase agreed to pay $290 million to sexual abuse victims of Jeffrey Epstein to settle a proposed class action lawsuit brought by a victim of Epstein’s known as Jane Doe. The settlement, which must be approved by U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff for the Southern District of New York, alleges the bank financially enabled Epstein’s sex-trafficking ring and follows shortly after the $75 million Deutsche Bank settlement last month. Importantly, the settlement was announced the same day that Judge Rakoff granted class certification in the underlying litigation, representing an important victory in these types of cases.
The full team included Andrew Villacastin, Sabina Mariella, Danny Crispino, Alexander Law, Virginia Su, Thomas McCawley, Josh Kolb, and Olivia McKenzie.
