Boies Schiller Flexner LLP today announced that four litigators, David Barillari, Alexander Boies, Lauren Goldman, and Jenna Smith, have been elevated to partner. Additionally, Washington, D.C.-based partner Amy Neuhardt has been named as the firm’s co-general counsel. Both changes became effective January 1.
“We are excited to welcome these four attorneys into the partnership. From having the skills to solve problems creatively to understanding which arguments best serve a client’s needs in a given situation, each of these lawyers demonstrate the abilities that make exceptional trial lawyers and each of them has a track record of consistently delivering for clients across venues, industries, and various types of litigation. We are fortunate to have them working alongside us, and we congratulate them on their promotions,” Managing Partners Sigrid McCawley, Matthew L. Schwartz, and Stuart Singer said in a joint statement.
David Barillari represents plaintiffs and defendants in complex commercial disputes, high-stakes matrimonial litigation, constitutional litigation, and criminal proceedings. He has experience litigating matters involving the healthcare, cannabis, private equity, film financing, freight railroading, and real estate industries, to name a few. David has helped navigate clients to victories in federal and state courts, as well as in arbitration; he has also advised clients on matters involving administrative agencies, including the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
Alexander Boies has significant experience with complex litigation, including high-stakes class actions on behalf of consumer plaintiffs. He has represented clients in matters that touch upon a wide range of industries and cutting-edge areas of the law, including sports and gaming, technology, and cryptocurrency. Alexander has advised on cases with antitrust, privacy, and securities issues, among other areas of law. He was part of the team that successfully brought novel claims last year against two of the world’s largest investment banks over their connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
Lauren Goldman represents clients in state and federal courts in high-stakes matters, including complex civil litigation, contractual disputes, securities fraud, and employment claims. Her practice spans a variety of industries, such as media and sports, real estate, finance, and insurance. Lauren is also committed to pro bono matters, where her work includes securing the support of women athletes and sports organizations for petitions arguing to uphold reproductive rights – one of which was in the U.S. Supreme Court Dobbs case. Lauren previously served as chair of the firm’s Associates Committee.
Jenna Smith focuses on complex commercial litigation and class actions, handling issues including antitrust matters, bankruptcy-related claims, contractual disputes, consumer protection cases, and financial products litigation. Jenna is a member of the firm’s diversity committee and serves as pro bono liaison for the Albany office. She is on the board of directors of the nonprofit RISE, which provides housing and supportive services to those with mental health and/or substance abuse issues. Jenna is co-author of a quarterly column for the New York Law Journal, has been recognized by Best Lawyers as “one to watch,” and was named to the Northern District of New York Pro Bono Honor Roll for 2021-2023.
In addition, Amy Neuhardt, who has served as deputy general counsel for the past 18 months, has become co-general counsel along with New York administrative partner Eric Brenner. In this capacity, she handles a wide range of matters related to firm governance and other legal issues of significance to the firm. Additionally, Amy will maintain her busy practice as a litigator handling complex commercial disputes, securities claims, investigations, and media-related cases, among other work.
“The legal industry has no shortage of challenges that law firms must navigate, from recent advancements in AI to increasing requirements from governments, clients, and even potential clients,” Amy said. “Beyond my personal client-facing work, I enjoy being able to position Boies Schiller for success in these areas.”
The firm’s managing partners added: “We appreciate Amy’s contributions as deputy general counsel and know that the firm will continue to benefit from her thoughtful advice, now in the well-deserved role of co-GC.”
