Boies Schiller Flexner LLP today announced the addition of three highly regarded lawyers who have joined the firm as the founding partners of the new Milan office: Luigi M. Macioce, Alessia Allegretti and Stefano Zonca.
Known as Boies Schiller Flexner Italy, the new office complements the firm’s international platform and capabilities. Milan is an important gateway to Europe for BSF clients and provides a presence inside the European Union’s third-largest economy and one of the top 10 economies in the world.
“Particularly post-Brexit, we wanted to have a clear gateway to the EU for our clients, and the Milan office gives us that,” said Managing Partner Alan Vickery. “The addition of highly regarded attorneys also further expands our practice capabilities, including for international arbitration work, and creates opportunities for BSF to advise Italian and EU companies in their U.S.-based work.”
The new partners join from a leading Italian law firm and bring complex, fully integrated practices to BSF:
- Mr. Macioce represents private clients and multinational companies in cross-border and domestic matters, including tax work. He also has deep experience in matters involving artists and the art world.
- Ms. Allegretti advises foreign clients with respect to their businesses in Italy, as well as Italian entrepreneurs in their businesses abroad; her experience includes advising a number of high-net-worth clients, closely held entities and family offices.
- Mr. Zonca has significant experience in international trade law and competition; he advises clients on commercial litigation and international arbitration, as well as in corporate governance and shareholder issues.
Another partner, Giancarlo Morelli, and at least 11 other attorneys will join them in the opening of the Milan office.
“Boies Schiller Flexner is a firm that is known for its exceptional lawyers and ability to represent clients in the most challenging matters,” said Mr. Macioce. “My Italian colleagues and I are looking forward to integrating our work with that of our BSF colleagues. Together we will offer a unique combination for clients that are expanding their businesses and interests or protecting their rights in court or arbitration.”
The new office further strengthens the firm’s existing capabilities in areas including international arbitration and litigation, and the representation of high-net-worth individuals in their most pressing business and legal issues. Lawyers in Milan will collaborate closely with colleagues across the firm’s platform on cross-border disputes and counseling.
“The Milan office gives us a seat in one of the EU’s largest economies, and our new colleagues are a strong complement to our platform and existing capabilities,” said Managing Partner Sigrid McCawley. “With our new office and partners, the firm is well-positioned to handle U.S.-based litigation for Italian clients, and we anticipate that our existing clients with legal challenges in the region will benefit from BSF having an established presence in Italy.”
Mr. Macioce, Ms. Allegretti, Mr. Zonca and their team are the newest additions to the firm, following several lateral hires in the preceding months. In September 2021, BSF added two new lateral partners: international arbitration lawyer Ben Love in the New York and Washington, D.C. offices and Alison Anderson in Los Angeles as part of the global investigations and white collar defense group. In May this year, Hon. Ursula Ungaro (Ret.) joined the firm in Miami and New York after serving on the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida for nearly 30 years.
