WASHINGTON, DC –– May 9, 2007 –– Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP is pleased to announce that D. Michael Underhill and Eric J. Maurer have joined the firm as partners in its Washington, DC office. They will focus on patent and trade secret litigation; Mr. Underhill will lead the firm’s intellectual property practice.
Mr. Underhill has twenty-five years’ litigation experience. He is a trial lawyer with jury and bench trial experience who has handled numerous intellectual property disputes, with an emphasis on patent and trade secret lawsuits. His patent cases encompass a wide range of technologies in various forums. He has also handled numerous cases arising out of employees’ alleged misappropriation of their employers’ technology and other confidential information, including cases requiring him to coordinate simultaneous legal proceedings in multiple countries. He graduated with distinction from the Duke University School of Law in 1982, after earning his Bachelor of Science degree from the engineering college at Carnegie Mellon University. He has lectured and written on various litigation and intellectual property topics, and is currently co-teaching the patent litigation course at George Washington University Law School.
Mr. Maurer has ten years’ experience litigating intellectual property disputes, with an emphasis on patent infringement. He has practiced before various federal district courts, the International Trade Commission, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the Supreme Court. His cases have concerned a range of technologies, including medical devices, digital imaging devices, integrated circuits, liquid crystal displays, light emitting diodes, and automotive parts. He graduated from the George Washington University Law School in 1996, with high honors, where he was a member of The George Washington University Law Review and Moot Court Board. He graduated from The Johns Hopkins University in 1993, with honors, with a bachelor of science in biomedical engineering and materials science and engineering. After law school, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Roger B. Andewelt at the United States Court of Federal Claims.
