Boies Schiller Flexner LLP announced today that Dan Boyle has joined the firm as a partner in its Los Angeles office, marking his return to private practice after spending over five years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California. Previously an associate in the firm’s New York office, Boyle will work on matters involving high-level white collar investigations, foreign corruption, and asset tracing and forfeiture.
“I’m excited to reunite with my exceptional colleagues and friends at the firm,” Boyle said. “Boies Schiller’s transnational white collar investigation and litigation prowess remains unmatched in the industry, particularly as it relates to international asset recovery work. I’m proud to rejoin this team and to use BSF’s platform to develop a private practice where I continue to seek justice on behalf of clients in critical matters.”
While working as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Central District of California, Boyle served as the office’s High Intensity Financial Crimes Area Coordinator, handling at least 90 criminal and civil matters. Among his most notable cases are the successful criminal prosecution of the former president of the MGM Grand casino for violations of the Bank Secrecy Act, including securing associated Non-Prosecution Agreements and external compliance reviews from the MGM Grand and The Cosmopolitan casinos for associated conduct; the criminal investigation and prosecution of Ippei Mizuhara, interpreter to Major League Baseball player Shohei Ohtani, for gambling-related bank fraud; civil and criminal forfeitures arising from the successful prosecution of the former owners of Backpage.com; and the successful prosecution of multiple Bank of America employees in a cross-border fraudulent accounts scheme, resulting in the recovery of more than $6 million in associated criminal proceeds.
“It’s always a pleasure to welcome an attorney back to Boies Schiller,” said Chairman-elect and white collar practice leader Matthew L. Schwartz. “Having worked very closely with Dan in the past, I know just how valuable his contributions will be from day one. I look forward to working with him again and to supporting his and others’ efforts to continue building our investigations and white collar litigation capabilities on the West Coast.”
Over the course of his legal career, Boyle has focused his practice on helping clients achieve justice by holding bad actors to account through criminal proceedings that often span the globe — from investigations and prosecutions to asset tracing and forfeiture. At Boies Schiller, Boyle will continue this transnational work in addition to commercial white collar matters on behalf of clients in the Los Angeles area and nationally; compliance and litigation work around the Bank Secrecy Act and Title 31, particularly on behalf of clients within the gaming industry; and general commercial work on behalf of private equity clients related to alternative asset management.
“Dan is an exceptionally talented and experienced attorney who has done groundbreaking work in gaming and white-collar law, and who has handled multiple high-profile international criminal investigations,” said Los Angeles Administrative Partner John Kucera. “Dan’s practice aligns with BSF’s existing work, and he is an immediate value-add to our bench nationally and on the West Coast. Along with our other recent lateral additions, Dan will be a key component of our efforts to further expand our work in California and beyond.”
